A Sliver of Constitutional Freedom Restored

As many of you well know, The Patriot Act promoted by President Bush and passed by Congress is not patriotic in the least.  Frankly, it was the most massive flagrant violation of American citizens’ inherent rights and freedoms defined by The Constitution.  It reeked eerily of the prejudiced paranoia and vendetta fueled antics of J. Edgar Hoover, former director of the FBI from 1924-1972.

At last, early this Thursday morning,   U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero ruled in favor of the American public and our American freedoms, declaring that past legislation involved in The Patriot Act and approved by Congress to be un-Constitutional.

Following is an excerpt and link to the full news article, “Judge strikes down part of Patriot Act,” written 9/6/07 by LARRY NEUMEISTER, Associated Press Writer.

NEW YORK – A federal judge struck down parts of the revised USA Patriot Act on Thursday, saying investigators must have a court’s approval before they can order Internet providers to turn over records without telling customers.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero said the government orders must be subject to meaningful judicial review and that the recently rewritten Patriot Act “offends the fundamental constitutional principles of checks and balances and separation of powers.”  8)
