US citizens – Demand the right to know what’s in your food

Think your food labels are complete and honest, even if you can’t pronounce 3/4 of the ingredients?  Think again.  GMOs (genetically modified organisms) developed by Monsanto and proven to cause cancer and other DNA alterations are not required by the FDA to be labeled.

This video does a great job to illustrate the point.  Just don’t let the issue drop there.  After going here to tell Pres. Obama to cut all ties between the FDA and Monsanto, take another moment to write your representatives from the bottom up.  Let them know that not only are you fed up with Monsanto contaminating and controlling our food supply, but that as a human being you have a right to know what is in your food.  It is about time the US caught up with the rest of the world on this matter.

1st I want you to consider a few truths regarding the FDA guidelines or RDA [recommended dietary allowance] of vitamins, minerals, and food group portions demonstrated by the colorful My Food Plate and its predecessor the Food Pyramid.  While the plate does give fruits and vegetables a more prominent division of our diet than grains, it still gives grains a 25% allocation to your meals.  The Food Pyramid had recommended a gargantuan 9-11 servings of carbohydrates in a single day.

Food industry monopolist Monsanto has had their hand in the FDA for a long time.  Grains are cheap to produce & are added to foods like meat that we’d never consider to examine.  They also cause cows to develop e-coli.  Monsanto has “poisoned the water hole” so to speak by putting cancerous chemicals in our food supply, sued family farmers when their own Frankenstein seed contaminated the farmers’ seed, bankrupted many by keeping them in legal limbo, & even caused 1000s of Indian farmers to commit suicide by drinking pesticides.  [click here to tell Pres. Before my days of behind the scenes nutritional research, back when my kids were toddlers, I would lament how in the world could I fit ~10 healthy carbohydrates a day in & still provide a rich diet of fruits and vegetables.  It became clear quickly that it was an either/or situation.  While I tried to offer a fruit at each breakfast, then at least 1 if not 2 veggies at lunch, 2-3 vegetables at dinner, cushioned with at least 1 fruit snack throughout the day, affordability often gave way to dependence on grains.  At least I did use oatmeal as our mainstay rather than pre-packaged cookies and cakes.  Now if I can just track down organic oatmeal…

When it came to my selection of fruits I relied on unsweetened applesauce, oranges, bananas, and canned varieties.  Wow, have I come a long way, baby.  Out of my choices at least half of them were just plain sorry.  I will give bananas a bit of credit since the 1g of fat in each does help provide their developing brains and nervous system with the fatty protective myelin sheath that insulates nerves.  While it is famous for potassium, it turns out to be an inferior source compared to raw potatoes, cantaloupe, strawberries, and even raw cacao beans (or dark chocolate if cacao is inaccessible to you).

Oranges were a great source (but are also a choking hazard, so beware – helps to peel the inner white linings off to reveal the raw pulp), but the canned applesauce reported zero nutrients.  FRESH raw apples – including chewing the seeds extra well – are, however, superb choices.  Canned fruit (pineapples, peaches, fruit cocktail) is loaded in corn syrup.

Corn syrup (and corn oil) has been linked as a direct cause of diabetes, obesity, and soaring triglyceride fat levels, and cancer.  Quite simply it is so concentrated that it overloads the pancreas in 1 form & chokes out cell walls in the other.  Our family has come to refer to it as “diabetic juice”  and “cancer Kool-aid.”

Which brings to mind another fact:  raw fruits are better sources than juice for the simple reason that juice contains an overabundance of servings, is not fresh unless juiced yourself, and is pasteurized.  On the flip side, freshly juicing vegetables is the most fantastic way to get your quota in without sore jaws and bloat.  The fact that industrial farms have depleted our soils with pesticide and chemical fertilizer use, as well as picking produce green & shipping it cross-country or world-wide means what you’re eating isn’t as nutritious as it could be.  There is no source more superior than locally grown organic foods.

Vegetarian Cheese made with GMO Calf Rennin/Rennet

 editor’s note:  Rennin, rennet, chymosin are all names used for the same thing > an enzyme that is added to milk as the first step in making cheese, or for making junket.   Sometimes, the terminology is more distinct, rennet being the stomach extract, while rennin or chymosin are names for the pure enzyme itself, which is the active ingredient in the extract. – WordIQ.

In 1990 a genetically modified organism [GMO] rennin substitute was passed by the FDA.  In the USA and UK near 90% of cheese is produced using the GMO rennin!  It has been the best kept secret ever!  Tesco and Marks & Spencer [aka, M&S] grocery stores repeatedly assured me that no GMO was used in their cheese production.  I did not believe them, and I kept at them and at them until they told me the truth. 

I made this video to highlight my journey with Marks & Spencer trying to get the truth out of them.  All of their cheeses use the GMO rennin — their organic cheeses!


 

I suspect Tesco do as well, but they will not admit it.  I am currently trying to find out exactly which organic certification board thinks it is OK to use GMO rennin.
The Vegetarian Society also endorse the GMO rennin.  As the GMO rennin is cloned from the actual rennin extracted from a dead calves stomach, I asked did they not think they were deceiving vegetarians with their endorsement?  They said they ‘believe it better that one calf should die than thousands.’
I put it to them:  if they had not have endorsed it, then the cheese manufacturers would have been forced to use one of the natural plant rennins.

The FDA granted the original patent and license to Pfizer (the drug giant).
Any substance taken from a plant cannot be patented, no money in that, so the GMO rennin totally took over the market.  It was becoming too expensive to kill calves at a day old to harvest the rennin, so a substitute had to be found.

The substance in the rennin that causes the curds and whey to separate is chymosin.  They started off with rennin from a dead calves stomach, extracted the chymosin, then produced clones of the calves rennin.  They now also use rennin from piglets and lambs.

Tesco, environmental health, and Marks & Spencer all tell me no GMO is left in the cheese or whey, but they could not furnish me with studies or tests that might prove this.  Other advocates of this GMO chymosin say only a small percentage is left in the cheese, and more in the whey!  Whey is in everything:  chocolate, biscuits, ice cream, etc…

Asking a vegetarian to eat cheese produced from cloned rennin, is akin to saying, eat that sheep – its OK – its only a clone!!!!!!  I have not been onto all the other supermarket chains, but I think we can take it as a given….they all use it! 
The Co-Op [The Co-operative Group, LTD] seems to be the only supermarket in the UK who has shown any respect for their customers being the only ones that have it on the label that a GMO is used in the production of the cheese.  They have at least allowed their customers the choice if they want to consume food produced using a GMO.
MUCH respect to The Co-op!  I WILL NOW BE DOING A LOT MORE OF MY SHOPPING AT THE CO-OP BECAUSE OF THEIR HONESTY.  I won’t eat the GMO cheese, but AT LEAST The Co-op warns you…in BIG LETTERS!
The rest are lying, deceitful cons who have maintained this lie for years.  I dare anyone to ring Marks & Spencer or Tesco and ask if they use GMO in the production of their cheeses – they will say no!  It took me months to get the truth out of them, and I now have it in writing.  It suited them all just fine that the “useless eaters” had no clue what they were eating!
I beg you all, please spread the word on this, tell everyone, and start shouting.  Do what I do:  phone them, make a fuss, call them liars – because that is what they are!  Marks & Spencer especially bum and blow all the time about their store being totally GMO free!  Half the food in their food has had the GMO chymosin used in the production.  Rotten liars!
 
Then there is all the things that contain GMO whey:  chocolate, ice cream, pies, biscuits… this DNA altering mess is in everything!  Cadbury and Nestle both use a lot of whey in their chocolate.  It’s a bulking agent – it bulks the chocolate up AND it bulks you up!

Then this link details the totally inadequate testing that was done on chymosin which seems to have been done by Pfizer….like they could be trusted.  I have been trying to establish who exactly produces the GMO chymosin, but so far no luck!  Whatever the big secret is, no one will tell me.

Environmental Toxins & How to Detox with Natural Diet

You’ve heard how everything happens for a reason?  My husband and I lamented over the loss of decking contracts last fall as we were anticipating that extra income to get us through the Christmas shopping season and winter power bill cost hikes.  Not to mention, it was the first time since our courtship that we were able to work together on the same job as a team.  Not only did I love gaining his respect with the chance for him to see my hard work ethic firsthand after 15 years of working in separate industries, but I truly relished the toiling physical labor and feeling of strength that I gained as I kept up with his construction work pace quite readily. 

This video reveals a case where a lady died after a sudden illness, and since the autopsy revealed toxic levels of arsenic in her body, her husband was arrested for attempted murder.  In an attempt to prove his innocence, a heavy metal screening was performed on him as well…to uncover astonishing levels of arsenic poisoning in his system.  Further investigations discovered that they had been carpenters and specialized in none other than decks made from pressure treated wood.

I remember as we would pick out the materials at the local hardware store being concerned about the slimy green powder that coated the pressure treated pine lumber.  I was almost as aggravated that store employees wouldn’t pick out the wood for you without choosing crooked, inferior pieces.  Although I washed my hands as we left the store, the exposure continued throughout the grueling 16 hour work days as we rushed to get the job completed on time. 

I have learned that the EPA banned arsenic to be used in pressure treated wood after 2002, & while the “alternative coatings are less toxic,” they “still present some risks to consumers,” says ConsumerWatch.com. Yet, they do not explain what those risks or coatings are. Hmm. So, protective gloves were for sissies, I had thought in the past.  Perhaps this is a reason pride is considered a deadly sin.  Ya think?

Artificial Butter Flavoring Proven Hazardous

That’s right, artificial ingredients are killing people–particularly the by product diacetyl produced when artifically flavored popcorn is microwaved.  The fumes produced during the popping, as well as breathed in once the bag is opened, and even inhaled during chewing are making people sick.  Sick enough to cause death, with suspicious links to lung cancer as well. 

Put simply, the symptoms may be as “minor” as increased coughing, gagging, and phlegm production, or it can be as severe as an instant asthmatic attack.  Over time, particularly with daily consumption and exposure, it is proven to cause extensive damage of the lung tissues–constricting bronchiole airways, even obliterating them all together, along with hyperextension, bursting, and calcification of the airsacs themselves. 

The FDA has been notified in writing that states the needed proof from the needed specialists, yet continue to ignore the problem without even so much as warning the American people that there are issues with the products at hand that need further investigation. 

Don’t dispare–popcorn is still a healthy, whole grain, high fiber snack.  Like other preparation and canning practices, it is time for the sake of our healths to revert back to the old school methods.  Although convenience is addictive, the effects of aluminum canning, plastic bottling, steroid additions, pesticide laden produce, and artificial ingredients and preservatives are proven to be crippling killers. 

As difficult as it may be, I have full faith that our Appalachian heritages still thrive enough to pass the knowledge along in order to keep this generation of latent priorities and past passivity alive.  

To prepare popcorn on the stove:

  1. Buy the bagged kernels of popping corn.
  2. Turn stove burner on high heat.
  3. To save on fat & calories, eliminate butter during popping process.  Otherwise, for a large pot of popcorn, melt 2 tablespoons of butter along with enough popcorn kernels to cover the bottom of the pot.
  4. Cover pot with lid as contents begin to heat.
  5. When corn begins to pop, secure lid with both hands (don’t forget your potholders) as you begin sliding pot vigorously back and forth over the burner. 
  6. When popping stops, remove completely from heat.
  7. Beware of steam escaping as you remove lid.  Open away from your face to prevent burns. 
  8. Salt or sweeten with light sprinkle of sugar as desired.
